ok, so i know this is a little delayed
as the olympics have been over
for a while now, but whatever.
this has been on my mind off and on
since and I'm just now sitting down
to right about it.
my family really enjoys watching
the olympics and this year was
no different.
sometimes we got sucked in and
would look like zombies
in front of the tv
and other times we would just
keep it on for background noise,
until something caught our attention.
one night i was just walking through
the house and was stopped by
a commentator talking
about reese hoffa's (US shot put) "A-mom".
k and i both stopped,
stunned in our tracks,
and were like
"A-mom, what the hell is an A-mom....
[insert sudden rage]...why the hell would
that announcer just call his adoptive mother
his A-mom?!"
seriously?
i bet he never once
called the mother that
raised and loved him, "A-mom"
as the mother of an adopted child,
i was supremely insulted and pissed off
that his mother was categorized
as an "A-mom" rather than just his mother.
we have to deal with
this sort of stuff
more often than i like.
i would like it if people
were more aware that
no two families are the same.
i thought that the commentator
was tactless.
i wish that adopted kids
could just be kids and not labelled..."adopted kids"
or kids with a story!
there's my beef.
if there's anything
i would like you to take
from my rant....it's this:
please teach your children
that people and families
come in all different
shapes and sizes.
here's the infamous clip:
until next time,
